Japan won the Easton Foundation Youth Softball World Cup with a victory over the Netherlands in the gold medal game two days ago in the Czech Republic. The eleven-nation tournament began on August 9 and consisted of teams whose participants were age 16-and-under. The Dutch team had advanced to the event’s final game with 5-4 victory over Puerto Rico that required an extra inning and left Puerto Rico with the bronze medals.
Other countries that played in the event were Canada, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Italy, Russia, South Africa, and Venezuela. Czech National TV aired selected games from the tournament through the country.
