Caitlin Lowe is one of my favorite players on Team USA. She is not my favorite player because of his skills, or abilities on the field. It is not her leadership, or knowledge of the game. The reason I like Caitlin so much as a player is because of the way she acts when she is not playing. I guess I mean the way she acts off the field.

Caitlin is a great role model for fastpitch softball. She is courteous, polite, and just plain old nice. She will take the time for a photo, or to shake hands and say hello In these days and times when so many people are saying they are not role models it is nice to see a person who is one without even trying.

Last night Caitlin announced on her Facebook page that she will forego her tryouts for TEAM USA. Now let me make it clear, she is not retiring from softball completely. She will still play for the USSSA Pride in the NPF, but not on Team USA any longer. I for one will miss her off the field as much as on the field. Instead of telling you what she wrote I am just going to post the message you placed on Facebook last night.

To all my fellow softballers

There’s not really an easy way to begin writing this blog. I have been staring at this blank screen for a couple of hours trying to figure out how to put my thoughts/emotions down on paper.

So here goes nothing…

Last week I made the decision to forego my USA Softball tryout. I can’t even begin to describe how difficult it was to make this decision. Playing USA Softball has not only been a dream of mine since I was a little girl, but it has been my ENTIRE life since I first made the Junior National Team in high school. I LIVE to wear the red, white, and blue. Although this may not be my final farewell, it is definitely tough to step away from a program that has given me so much. I will forever be grateful to all those involved with USA Softball.

As much as it saddens me to not be part of Team USA, I could not be more excited to throw myself full time into the National Professional Fastpitch League. This will be my 3rd year playing in the league and I have only seen major improvements since joining. I am a member of the USSSA Pride based out of Orlando, FL and we are just coming off an NPF Championship! My hope is that the league will expand every year and we can provide college graduates a great place to continue their careers.

This is an unsure yet very exciting time for the game of softball. Yes, we were taken out of the Olympics, but that has not stopped the game from continuing to grow. I dream that one day we will return to the Olympic games and prove to everyone, once again, why we deserve to be there. For now, I CHALLENGE everyone to not only support our national program, but to help us continue the growth of our professional league.

To all current and future USA members, I wish you all the best of luck! I will be your #1 fan this summer! Go USA!!

Caitlin Lowe

I want to personally saw Thank Caitlin for all you have done.

Here is an interview I did with Caitlin a couple of years ago. It seemed relevant to this post. Episode 83 – Caitlin Lowe Interview
